Archangel Michael exhibition at Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve

21 November (New Style) is the Feast of the Archangels, or the Feast of St Michael and All Angels. St Michael is known in the Orthodox Church as the Archistrategos, or the leader of the army of God (Heavenly Host) against the forces of evil. St Michael is often depicted on Orthodox icons.

The language of the Christian culture is the language of symbols. Even the clothes of St Michael have a symbolic meaning. For example, the ribbons in his hair and the free-hanging tail ends of his headband are indications of his designation to hear the will of God.

The exhibits include the typical images of St Michael on the icons and drawings in the Russian and West European traditions.

The entrance fee is 100 roubles (50 roubles for benefit holders).
