Capybara born at the Moscow Zoo

The Moscow Zoo continues to experience a baby boom. This time, a capybara couple has become parents. These grass-eating mammals resemble large guinea pigs.

The capybara, the largest member of the rodent order, measures up to 1.35 metres long and 40-60 centimetres tall at the shoulder. For now, the newborn baby fits nicely in the laps of its protective zoologists.

Like all capybaras, the baby is quite friendly and calm, and gets along nicely with its neighbours in the enclosure, including vicuñas and guanaco llamas. Sometimes, all of them eat from one and the same tray.
