The largest skating-rink in Europe opened yesterday at Gorky Park
The opening ceremony was well-organized and interesting, with many boxes of mandarins and free coffee.
The ice rink was not only increased in its space, but also opened two weeks earlier than last year. The ice surface covers the Fountain Square, a new big bridge and a dancing zone near the cafe "Merkato". The fontain is illuminated with numerous small lamps.
The rink was constructed under the direction of the Austrians. The ground under the ice surface contains special rubber tubes, which are filled with refrigerating fluid. It keeps a constant temprature and prevents ice melting even at +15.
