The monument to Shalyapin was unveiled on July 30, 2003.
It was created on extra-budgetary funds and its installation wasn’t even coordinated with the city authorities and was made almost secretly - at night. The very composition and location of the monument caused mixed reactions in the society. Local residents don’t like “the pose” of the monument which looks like one of a drunk man. Someone even suggested to transfer it on the square in front of the Bolshoy Theater, but despite these disputes the monument looks rather appropriate on the place.
