In 1948 the official version of heroic deed of the Twenty-Eight Panfilov Guardsmen was carefully checked by General Military Procurator of the USSR and was considered a literary fiction by the contributors of the Soviet newspaper "Red Star". However, the fact of the severe defensive actions on November 16, 1941, near Volokolamsk are undoubted.
You can get there along Novorijsky highway to Volokolamsk, then you should turn to the left at the first junction (Jdanovsky Highway) and drive through the villages Jdanovo and Nelidovo. The other way is to take electric train from Rijsky Station to Dubosekovo Station and then go on foot a little bit.
