Memorial Museum of Astronautics

The idea to open a museum as a part of the monument belonged to Sergey Pavlovich Korolev - the lead Soviet rocket engineer and spacecraft designer in the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the 1950s and 1960s. Though, it was built only after his death in 1981.

In 2009 the museum was reopened after several years of large reconstruction. Now you can visit the totally renewed museum of astronautics.

The museum contains a wide variety of space-related exhibits and models, such as space compartments and modules, spacesuits and examples of food, a module of the spacecraft "Soyuz", a cabin of "Buran", the Mission Control Center in a small size, training equipment that is used to prepare astronauts, a moonprobe, the famous dogs Belka and Strelka and many other interesting things. The museum's collection holds approximately 85,000 different items.
