Moscow sky to burst into colour with chrysanthemums and peonies on City Day

The colourful displays marking Moscow’s 870th anniversary, will begin on 9 September at 9 pm, the most convenient time for the viewers who won’t have to rush back home at the end of the show. There will be 13 fireworks venues on city squares, near embankments and in parks.

At 9 pm sharp, peonies, chrysanthemums, serpent- and heart-shaped and glittering figures and other colourful decorations will light up the sky. In all, 13,260 salvos will be fired. The sky above Raushskaya Embankment, Park Pobedy and Brateyevsky Park will become bright with the number 870.

In addition to the firework displays three-metre high illuminated walls depicting the number 870 will be installed. They will light up simultaneously with the salute on a barge moored on the Moskva River opposite the Luzhniki Olympic Complex (Central Administrative Area) and also at 13 concert venues. Between 1-10 September, Moscow will host a festival marking the city’s 870th anniversary. About 40 festive venues will be open citywide where concerts, performances, educational quizzes, masterclasses and interactive games will be held. The main venues will be on Tverskaya and Arbat streets and Manezhnaya, Tverskaya and Revolution squares.
