The Final Gala Concert of the Brass Band Festival in VDNH's Green Theatre

A professional jury will also make the final judgements on the results of the Festival and award prize money to the best of the 15 orchestras that have been delighting VDNH's guests every Friday this summer!

The Brass Band Festival started in VDNH on 14 May 2016 and has been held in several of the Exhibition's various spaces throughout the summer. During this time, all sorts of brass musical genres had their time to shine, from military marches to New Orleans-style jazz. Participation in the competition was open to small-scale brass bands from anywhere in Russia. The Festival has become a dazzling event in the city's cultural life, and one that has been seen by hundreds of thousands of Muscovites and visitors to the capital city. So it is quite fitting that the final gala concert of the festival will be held at VDNH on City Day.

The brass band competition finalists at VDNH

At Green Theatre on 10 September, Russia's top brass music maestros will take the stage, including one of the country's most beloved jazz musicians, Vadim Eilenkrig, with his group the Eilenkrig Crew, as well as the professionals from Oleg Menshikov's Orchestra. In addition, the Brass Band Festival's best contestants will also perform. Three finalists, the Moscow-based groups Music Brass, the Fortuna Brass Brand, and also the virtuosos from Kaliningrad, the Königsberg Brass Band, were chosen by a country-wide vote that took place on VDNH's official website, as well as by a jury. This time, the groups will once again show off their high degree of professionalism, and also compete in an honest musical competition for the grand prize. A professional jury will choose the best of the best, which will be made up of such eminent academic and jazz musicians as Sergei Polyanichko, Vladislav Lavrik, Semyon Milstein, and Vadim Eilenkrig.

Vadim Eilenkrig

What's more, visitors to the Green Theatre on City Day will be treated to a performance by the outstanding Russian musician and trumpet player Vadim Eilenkrig. He has soloed many times on some of the world's greatest stages, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre, the Chicago and Boston Philharmonics. From concert to concert, the master has not only developed his own unique style, but also honed his exclusive sound and individual style of delivery. Today, Eilenkrig is one of the most well-known and in-demand jazz musicians in all of Russia.

The Oleg Menshikov Brass Band

As a surprise for all the guests of Green Theatre that day, there will be a concert by the Oleg Menshikov Brass Band (the artist himself will not be attending). This is a band that can tell sad and funny stories with ease, a band that can sing, dance, solo and accompany. Working masterfully to synthesise various genres, 30 artists seamlessly unite words, music, dance, costumes and much more, filling the hall and all the surrounding spaces with the incredible energy and powerful sounds of wind instruments, and emphasising the mood of each piece they perform.
