Tea party with a gigantic samovar to be held on Russia Day

According to the press service of the Department of NationalPolicy, Interregional Relations and Tourism, Samovarfest will be held at the Hermitage Garden from noon until 9 pm. The two-metre-tall brass samovar was made for the festival. It will enter the Russian Book of Records as the tallest in the country. A plate bearing the name “Moscow” and the inscription “A firewood heated samovar with a capacity of 24 standard buckets” adorns it.

“The samovar will be placed on a small pedestal surrounded with wooden tables and benches. It will have six taps to simultaneously pour hot water into several cups. It will be heated with firewood and pinecones,” said the department’s press service.

The festival’s organiser, Natalya Dolgareva, explained that the tea party will be one of the most visited events in Moscow, gathering over a hundred representatives of different ethnic groups who will be wearing traditional folk costumes. Dishes of different cuisines will be on offer at the festival – pilaf (rice with meet), meat dumplings, shashlik, dolma and different pies. Guests can enjoy cracknels, baklava, curd patties and many other treats with their tea.

“The main goal set forward by Samovarfest organisers is to make our city atmosphere as friendly as possible,” Natalya Dolgareva noted.

Dolgareva added that the samovar will be listed in the Russian Book of Records as the tallest brass samovar. The book also includes a stainless steel samovar with a capacity of 550 litres made in 2014 in Perm. It holds the title of the biggest samovar
