Moscow to have an aircraft industrial park

An aircraft industrial park will be created in Moscow in the next few years, Alexei Fursin, head of the

Department of Science, Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship, said at the MAKS 2017 International

Aviation and Space Salon.

“Plans for this park, which will incorporate existing aircraft manufacturing companies, are being

discussed with the United Aircraft Corporation. I believe that we will launch this project in late 2017 or

in 2018,” Alexei Fursin said.

In addition to design bureaus, the park will include companies that design aircraft parts and also

software for the aircraft industry. The current stage provides for formulating the design specifications

and the list of future resident companies.

The Moscow aircraft industry comprises 39 large and medium-sized manufacturing companies and

research institutions focused on advanced technologies, which together employ 51,500 people. Last

year, two start-up companies won Moscow Government awards for their projects. One of them

concerns a new technology for aircraft engines, and the other proposes changing the design of aircraft

wings to reduce noise.

MAKS 2017, which is underway in Zhukovsky in the Moscow Region, will end on 23 July. It is held to

demonstrate the achievements of Russia’s aerospace industry, including prototype aircraft and combat

systems, as well as experimental units.

There are some 200 Moscow companies among the 430 Russian participants at the show this year, or

46 percent of the total. The stand titled Made in Moscow includes products made by 37 small and

medium-sized companies and start-ups. Over 1,000 business meetings will be held during the show.

Start-up companies are developing very fast in Moscow. Many of them offer interesting solutions in the

area of new materials and components for the aircraft industry, as well as technology for the production

of aircraft parts. The city has created an innovations-based infrastructure to support these start-ups.

This infrastructure comprises over a thousand elements, including industry parks, engineering centres,

business incubators as well as prototype and joint application centres.
