The skating rink at VDNKh

The actors will present the Star Track show which will include vertical acrobatic elements.
The country’s main skating-rink at VDNKh will open with a performance of the Grupo Puja Spanish high-rise theatre. The group will present their Star Track show, which contains elements of vertical acrobatics and dangerous stunts at a height of 35 metres.

In addition, the audience will watch dancing flash mobs and animator-guided games and quizzes. The festive programme will start at 5 pm, and at 8:30 pm the sky over the ice rink will turn into a stage.

“The actors of the Grupo Puja theatre will perform a most interesting show at a height of 35 metres with three changes of stunt stage equipment. The performance, to be staged specially for this skating rink, will feature the most spectacular pieces from the theatre’s programme. A special crane will raise the actors into the air from where they will create a new world and prove that man is stronger than he thinks and is capable of reaching new thresholds,” said Yulia Davydova from the VDNKh staff.

Grupo Puja actors have performed in over 20 countries (Singapore, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and Taiwan among them) and took part in the opening ceremony of the European Athletics Championships in Göteborg and the Festival of Light in Edinburgh.

Multi-coloured fireworks will be displayed over the skating rink at 9 pm, and VDNKh visitors will be allowed to skate until 11 pm on that day. Limited edition tickets for the opening of the skating-rink are already on sale. Tickets for children aged 6-12 cost 500 roubles and for adults 1,000 roubles.

The subject for this year’s VDNKh season will be the “Winter of Your Achievements.” The skating rink will stretch from Pavilion No.1, Central,  to Pavilion No.58, Farming, and the ice tracks will also run around the park’s famous fountains. The skating rink will cover an area of over 20,000 square metres.

This year’s central art installation of the skating rink, a display of gigantic luminous athletes’ figures, is dedicated to the theme of winter sports. Its total area is about 2,000 square metres and the semi-rings are 10 metres high.

Over 10 various cafes will offer visitors hot drinks and tasty food, from burgers and famous doughnuts to real Azerbaijani shawarma.

Weekdays – 11 am – 11 pm;
Weekends and holidays - 10 am – 11 pm.

Daily technical breaks are from 3 pm – 5 pm. Monday is the rink's day off.
