Ice-skating rinks and yukigassen: Fun activities in store for VDNKh visitors in the new winter

VDNKh starts its winter season on 30 November, Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his Twitter page.

#VDNKh starts its winter season on 30 November. New activities—curling, which is still exotic in Russia, and yukigassen, Japanese team snowball fighting—will complement the familiar ice-skating rinks and tube slides.

VDNKh will open the world’s largest ice-skating rink, which can hold almost 5,000 skaters at the same time. The area of the artificial ice surface is over 20,000 sq m. Together with the locker rooms and rental centres, the rink covers an area of almost 70,000 sq m. Locals and tourists can skate along the main alley from the Central Pavilion (No. 1) to the Crop Farming Pavilion (No. 58).

Four rental pavilions will provide access to the ice. There will be a separate express entrance for those who come with their own skates.

The theme of the previous season was The Winter of Your Achievements.   Using the #KатокВДНХ hashtag, anyone who felt like it could share stories of their victories on social media. Every week guests could take part in interactive programmes, competitions, quests and contests.

This year, about 1,500 skating rinks with artificial and natural ice will open in Moscow. They will be located in all Moscow administrative areas.
