Moscow rated best city for business and event tourism

Russia hosted the first Business Traveler Awards international ceremony for the first time.

Moscow has been rated the best city for business and event tourism in the Itinerary category.

“Rated the world’s most rapidly developing metropolitan city by PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Moscow can receive visitors any time of the year. This multi-ethnic and multi-denominational city where people speak any language never sleeps,” said Vladimir Chernikov, Head of the Department for Multicultural Policy, Interregional Cooperation and Tourism.

He mentioned the Circle of Light festival, a major international event in this category, as an example. “The Golden Autumn festival is open in many locations on city streets, and the traditional Journey into Christmas festival will kick off in December. Generally, the city’s 2017-2018 events calendar, unveiled this summer, includes over 500 of the biggest city events with tourist potential, including major business forums and conferences,” Mr Chernikov added.

Besides Moscow, St Petersburg, Vienna, Madrid, Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, Jerusalem, Paris and other cities, as well as over 300 companies, were considered in the above category. For three months, business travelers and readers of Business Traveler magazine voted for the best in business tourism in six categories: Airline, Airport, Itinerary, Hotel, Car Hire Service and Roaming.

On 26 September, Izvestia Hall hosted the official Business Traveler Awards ceremony for the first time in Russia. The event was timed to coincide with World Tourism Day, marked every 27 September.

World Tourism Day is an international day instituted by the World Tourism Organisation in 1979. Russia has been marking this holiday since 1983. The event aims to raise public awareness of the tourist industry, to recall its contribution to the global economy and to expanded ties between various nations. The motto of this year’s Tourism Day is Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future.
