The Museum of the History of Corporal Punishment was opened in Moscow on December 23, 2011. At the museum you will see a wide collection of ancient instruments and machines used for torture and execution in Russia in the distant past. For examples, instruments of an executioner, a chair with nails, a guillotine, a machine that was used to deal with pedophiles and other offenders, a special mask put on the faces of counterfeiters before pouring white-hot lead down their throats, and others. Besides, you will see lots of etchings dedicated to torture and execution, many of which are so horrific that can't be published anywhere.

There are many torture museums in the world, but the majority of them are just like horror places dedicated to witches, werewolves, vampires, and other fictitious evil spirits. The torture museum in Moscow gives visitors a chance to explore the real and legal (!) methods of corporal punishment of the past in Russia. Russian people fight crime by various methods, from verbal warning to physical abuse. Whips, lashes, racks, medals for hard drinking, female chastity belts, stamping for burglars, breaking on the wheel, stretching machines, etc. Despite the terrible theme of the exposition, the main purpose of it is to help prevent crime among rising generation.

• The rules of the museum:

1. 1. Entrance fee: 200 rubles for women, 300 rubles for men.
   2. It is not allowed to take pictures or video.
   3. You'll be asked to turn off your telephone.
   4. Excursions are conducted every hour.
   5. You'll have to pass a face control at the entrance.
   6. Children until 16 are allowed only with their parents or the head of the group.
