Europe's largest skating rink with an artificial ice surface opened at Gorky Central Park in Moscow yesterday. This year the size of the rink is increased to 18,000 square meters by expanding the original rink space to include the Fountain Square. The ice rink is separated in different zones: for children, newcomers and retirees. Also, you can find there a hockey field, a school of figure skating (1200 rubles for individual lessons) and a free Wi-Fi zone, of course.
The opening ceremony was well-organized and interesting, with many boxes of mandarins and free coffee.
The ice rink was not only increased in its space, but also opened two weeks earlier than last year. The ice surface covers the Fountain Square, a new big bridge and a dancing zone near the cafe "Merkato". The fontain is illuminated with numerous small lamps.
The rink was constructed under the direction of the Austrians. The ground under the ice surface contains special rubber tubes, which are filled with refrigerating fluid. It keeps a constant temprature and prevents ice melting even at +15.
Where: Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure - on the map. There are two parking places near the park: in front of the main entrance to the park (for 470 cars) and at Pushkinskaya Embankment (for 300 cars).
The skating-rink will be working the whole winter, until March 10.
Working hours: every day except Monday, from 10:00 until 23:00 with a technical break between 15:00 and 17:00.
Price of a ticket: from 150 to 400 rubles, depending on the category of visitors, time and day of the week. You can order a ticket on the Internet. Those who don't have access to the Internet, can buy a ticket at one of the booking office in the park.
There are two rent-skates zones at the skating-rink. They offer 4000 pairs of new skates, so you will find an appropriate one for sure, even you have the 47th size of foot.
